We left Tad Lo after a fabulous breakfast and were heading to Pakse. On the way we stopped at a coffee plantation where we had a tour around the plantations. We were shown the different stages of the coffee plants and were told the different conditions it needs to grow. After that they demonstrated how to roast and grind them to make different blends and of course to sample some coffee. That was the bit I didn't really enjoy as I don't like coffee and don't really like the smell of it either. Those people who liked coffee seemed to think it was a really good coffee. After that we continued on the road for a while and stopped once again at a World Heritage area, Wat Phou, where there is an ancient Khmer temple. To get to the temple we had to go up lots of stairs, really steep stairs. Inside the temple were lots of statues of Buddah. There was also some holy water that was dripping out of the mountain that people would drink when they came to worship. There was also Buddahs footprint in a rock and other rock carvings. The view back down the stairs and across the valley was amazing. We went back down the stairs and continued on our journey to Pakse. We arrived in the early evening. We went out for a group meal and cocktails on the roof of a posh hotel before going to bed in our hostel!
The next day was the last full day of the trip. We were heading to the 4000 islands. We set off on the stray bus before boarding once again a motorised canoe. We sailed through the islands until we landed on the Island of Don Det in the early afternoon. After lunch we hired bicycles and set off on a ride across the island. We cycled across to neighbouring Don Khone Island to visit the Li Phi waterfall. Unfortunately we were too late to take a boat trip for a chance to see the rare Irrawaddy dolphins. After staying at the waterfall for a while we cycled back for our last group meal altogether at a local restaurant. It had been a really good trip with a fantastic group of people.
