So the last update was when we had just arrived in Hampi and we actually ended up staying there for a week! It is such a beautiful place, full of lush green rice paddies set against a backdrop of dusty red boulders amongst ornate temples and ruins. We fell in love with the place and the people there, our guest house was so welcoming and we made lots of friends there. We went on some bike rides and did lots of exploring. We saw lots of temples and Vicky got blessed by the local elephant Lakshmi!
We also volunteered at a local childrens trust which takes 30 local children, who would normally be begging on the streets, and sends them to school, clothes them and feeds them. We were there in the mornings and lunch times, helping them with their school work which included English and Maths, helping prepare their meals and generally looking after them. It was an incredibly rewarding experience and we just wish we could have stayed there longer.
But we had to move on, so we headed to Bangalore which is the I.T hub of India and quite a developed city compared to other parts of India with lots of opportunity to develop a career. We met up with the group of Indian guys we had previously met in Goa and they were kind enough to show us round and answer our endless questions about their lives and culture! We lived a bit of the high life in Bangalore, going out every night, shopping in some of the big malls there and even having lunch in the Hard Rock Cafe!
From there we went on to Mysore for a day and visited the beautiful palace as well as the colourful local market. Then we headed to Chennai to meet Tim, Ros' boyfriend, who is travelling with us for 2 weeks. Chennai has been a challenge as it is very difficult to get around and there isn't that much to do here but our evenings have been very busy meeting up with a girl who Ros used to work with called Alka and her friends. They have been so kind and taken us to some great places.
And tonight we are very excited about flying to the Andaman Islands...next stop, paradise...
