I was happy to leave the absolute chaos of Saigon behind, so happy in fact that I slept in for the bus to Mui-Ne. It was the first time that I've done that since I've been away, it was such a horrible feeling. Trying to pack (yes I know I should have done it the night before), get dressed and check-out of the hotel and down to the bus stop in less than 20 minutes. Thankfully I managed it - maybe not so thankfully for the people who had to sit next to me on the bus - I stank!
Michelle, Liz (Cambodia trip girls) and I were so looking forward to arriving in Mui-Ne, dumping our bags and hitting the beach .... the best laid plans! What should have been a 4 hour bus journey actually took closer to 8 hours. When we finally arrived we tried to find somewhere to stay using our trusty lonely planet, only everyone else had the same idea. The first 20 or so guesthouses we tried were all fully booked. We were seriously facing the prospect of spending the night on the beach. Luckily when it seemed like we had exhausted all our options we came across the Red Star. A tiny little place that had triple room - some things are just meant to be! By the time we checked in the weather wasn't great so there was only one thing for it - Massage or in my case manicure and pedicure.
That night we went to WAX - the lonely planet had billed it as THEE place to go in Mui Ne. We went along around 8ish for dinner and it was empty, after sampling some fine food and VietnameseWine, yes really Vietnamese Wine (rather nice and VERY strong) we headed to a sports bar to watch the rugby. Just as the Scotland game was approaching half time, we got kicked out. Luckily I didn't have to watch us loss again. We went back to WAX and this time it was jumping. Whereas in Thailand Buckets had been like sandcastle buckets here they were like Mop buckets! The trusty Lonely Planet wasn't wrong WAX was the place to go!
The next few days were pretty much the same, a little sunbathing and a lot of drinking. The girls left on the Wednesday to fly back to Bangkok and I checked into a lovely little guesthouse. I also found Shades a five star resort where for $5 dollars you could use their pool and sun loungers and private beach. For the next 3 days I roasted there and loved it. It finally feels like I'm starting to tan - yippee!!!!
