Austria 10th July. Our entrance into Austria from Slovenia was via a tunnel built during WWII by concentration camp prisoners to aid movement of German soldiers. From here the surviving prisoners were sent on to Matthausen. This is Austrian hill country and very beautiful, lots of bush and small farms with beautiful houses and steadings, cows with bells and geraniums everywhere and also a lot of horses that I went and visited when we stayed in a little village...

From Venice we headed north passing briefly through Slovenia on our way to Croatia. We planned a 4 day stay on a Croatian island called Cres which is just off the coast from Skopje - the last stay at a beach before we head to Scandinavia and colder temperatures. Next stop was Venice! we had booked a apartment deal right in the centre of Venice, and after a long drive up to Venice then across a bridge to the island and on a boat to the stop Rialto we made it to our apartment. Copenhagen! Next morning we got up and took metro into city centre. Walked through a big barracks with moat and built up defences then past the little mermaid statue and Gefion fountain.
