Paris 10/05/09-18/05/09
Well we arrived in France on a ferry then took ages to drive up to Paris. We were staying in an apartment in Montparnasse. Churches: The first church we went to was Notre Dame. It was huge and very impressive especially the stain glass windows. We went in a wee church beside the Pantheon which was beautiful and the last church we went to was Sacre Coeur! This is the most beautiful church I have ever seen inside and out!! I lit a candle in there. Eiffel tower: we did the Eiffel tower at sunset which was cool I went right to the very top it was SOOO SCARY because I'm not a big fan of heights!!! Amazing views though!! Catacombes: these used to be ancient stone quarries then when a cemetery got diseased they decided to move all the bones and rotting corpses to these quarries it was also the headquarters of the French Resistance on the door outside are the words, “ Stop! This is an empire of death! “ It was quite freaky seeing all those human bones piled up. Momartre: This is the happening centre of Paris it has a cute lil square filled with cafes and stalls set up with budding artists selling their work, you can get a sketch or painting portrait of yourself done here. Not far from the square is Paris’ red light district with all the nude bars, pole dancing and Moulin Rouge!! We had a look round the outside but the shows are extremely expensive only for the rich! Bois Bologne: This is a huge park in Paris fashioned on London’s Hyde Park. We went to the Jardin d’Acclimation which has animals, rides, puppet shows and the Paris pony club. It was funny watching the rich girls trying to ride these grumpy riding school ponies. It would cost a lot to ride there!! We also went and saw some markets around our apartment. In the morning and at night I would go down to the shops and buy a baguette it was fun speaking French and I've become a bit better at it! Paris was alright but we had terrible weather, we did all the sights, the city was alright but I liked London better.
