Tequila Few Hours
We had an overnight stop in Mexico City before our flight to Cuba. We arrived late, later than expected given the flight time change. We had a minor delay due to waiting at the completely wrong carousel for our luggage, so it was around midnight when we were walking around the signless terminal searching for the route to our airport hotel. We finally came across an office, where someone kindly informed us of where to catch a shuttle bus. We checked in to our rather lovely hotel, which we were to make our home for the next few hours.
We were rudely awoken from our unconscious by the early morning alarm, signalling it was time for us to board yet another flight. After gathering our grubby belongings into our bulging back aching rucksacks, we headed back to the terminal building. Again, struck by confusion with the lack of appropriate signage or helpful assistance, we finally found an AeroMexico help desk where they checked us in. This was when we became suspicious, as we were then put in the 'flights closing' bag drop queue and when looking at the boarding card, one of the only things we could make out was the time '10:20', maybe this was the boarding time, because we were due to be on the 11:31 flight. No, they had changed the flight time without letting us know, good job we adhere strictly to the arriving at least three hours before an international flight rule.
Claire was somewhat struggling with the Spanish as she has never even had one lesson, so hit some difficulty when security, having established that she didn't speak Spanish, then spoke only Spanish to her. She elicited that they wanted to search her, but what then occurred was an awkward dance with Claire and the airport security lady. One mad rush to the gate later and we could relax.
Boarding the plane was further delayed as half of the flight were informed they had to fill in more paperwork, including us. It turns out that as we transitted through America we were now under their juresdiction. This made neither of us happy.
