We are ashamed to say that after arriving in Osaka mid afternoon, we spent most of our time there doing some much needed laundry. We had read the guide books and TripAdvisor and we weren't overly excited about doing any sightseeing so we decided this was a good use of our time.
We managed to get out and stretch our legs for a rainy evening walk around the centre of Osaka. The coats we've carried around the rest of the world finally came in use, although we looked rather out of place as the entire centre of the city was a sea of translucent umbrellas, this was clearly the fashionable option. Osaka has much of a same feel as Tokyo, buzzing with people and with bright lights from the pavement reaching up into the sky.
After another delicious sushi dinner we headed for the bowling alley. Not quite as lively as we had expected a 24 hour bowling alley to be, but we enjoyed sipping at a beer while having a couple of games. We observed the pros next to us, with their wrist braces, individualised balls and ball carriers and came to the conclusion that it really didn't constitute a sport. Unsurprisingly, mainly due to the proportionally higher alcohol level in Claire's system due to size, Greg won. We were about to head home when we stumbled upon an amusement arcade, keen to repeat the drumming episode from one of the previous nights, Greg dragged Claire towards the door. Unfortunately we were prevented from entering due to a three people deep crowd that had accumulated around one middle aged man, BMI around 35, on the 'Dance Evolution' machine. It was indeed a spectacle as he danced his way to perfection every time. We proceeded to explore all six floors of the amusement arcade, coming across all sorts of games we had never even seen before. We couldn't help but feel sorry though for the people, mostly men, who were stood, occupying these machines, and clearly occupied these machines most nights. We couldn't even see the instructions on the screens due to their speed, let alone play guitar hero to them! We found a quiet corner for a quick Mario Kart race before heading back to the hostel.
