Basically a travel day today. We said goodbye to Rome, and to Italy, and rode a few trains to Marseille. We went straight through the whole country of Monaco, unfortunately we were in a tunnel so we didn't get to see it. ....then we woke up and decided to skip Greece all together!! Apparently the rail workers are on strike, so travel by train is completely undependable. We couldn't find a sure way to even get to Athens. So, dad woke up with the genius idea to just skip our first flight, from Athens to Frankfurt, and just jump on our flight in Frankfurt for home! I knew I got my smarts from somewhere ;) We looked at the map.... Hmmm.... Should we go to France? Prague? Austria? Is...

Much to our surprise, our May Day just happens to be Italy's Labor Day. So that made the day a little more interesting, and a lot of fun. Although lots of places were closed, we knew they couldn't stop people from at least seeing the Coliseum, so we went there first. You literally step out from the metro and BAM, there it is, right in your face! It's amazing! We walked around the whole thing, using an audio guide, and tried to picture what it was like 2000 years...

We left bright and early to catch our quick train to Rome!! We refused to even risk having anything stolen again, so we literally tied our bags to ourselves, after hearing people tell us that their whole suitcases were stolen. We made it out of the train station without incident, and headed to our hotel. We woke up to a beautiful, sun-shiny day - yes! We first went to the furthest south of the five towns - Riomaggiore. We grabbed some coffee and focaccia, window shopped and went out by the water.
