Heading West out of Hamburg we chanced upon the extraordinary town of Bad Zwischenahn. Extraordinary in that everywhere you looked there were bushes cultivated into thousands of shapes. There were also numerous nurseries selling an incredible variety of shaped bushes from a few inches across to 20 ft tall. Furthermore, the town was populated, it seemed, by thousands of elderly German holidaymakers. It was all green bushes and beige windjammers; quite amazing.
