08 October 2012 - The Atlas Mountains of Morocco, Over the Straits of Gibraltar
The northern tip of Morocco protrudes into the Western end of the Med, before the sea opens up into the Atlantic. The Straits of Gibraltar separate the two continents and they are subject to unique meteorological conditions which give rise to two special winds, the Levante which is an Easterly wind and the Poniente, which is a Westerly wind. The Straits also often have a wedge of cloud which sits in it like a great fog. In this picture, the band of cloud neatly distinguishes the lands of Morocco and Spain and Morocco is represented by one of the peaks of the Great Atlas Mountains.
