Being 11/11, we waited for a sign. Sure enough at the exact moment, at 11.11 and 11 seconds, a Chinook helicopter came overhead, so I snapped it. I thought about my Uncle Alec and my Great Uncle Richard whose lives were lost in the two world wars. I'm not sure I approve of laying down your life because a politician has determined that a battle is worth fighting. In fact, every time a British soldier dies in Afghanistan, I feel a deep deep sense of futile loss and my sympathy for the parents and loved ones is indescribable.
