I was looking at this and thinking Grandad had a slightly nonplussed expression and recalled that just before Churchill came over to us, Grandad had referred to him as a "war monger". Grandad upholds strong socialist beliefs, so I wondered whether this was the issue, since Churchill was probably from another place on the political spectrum. Alternatively, perhaps Grandad just thought bit a bit daft shaking the hand of someone dressed up as an historical figure who was obviously, in reality, nothing to do with him.
