I once wrote a poem which included the line "surrounded by grotesque topiary". I thought it was a very good poem, but each time I shared with friends who I supposed might be impressed by my literary skills, that particular line seemed to cause sniggers. Totally put off, I gave up poetry and went back to accountancy. Seeing this piece of horticultural art, I thought back to those grand bohemian days and wondered about what might have been.
