In any ethnic restaurant, I tend to ask for a "local" beer. Unfortunately, they are usually made in Burton Upon Trent (under licence). This one seemed the genuine article, although the name "hite" sounded a bit Anglo-Saxon. It had a clean fresh taste though which complimented the tempura prawn. Bob "The Bear" Hite, incidentally, was the charismatic (and late) singer with the legendary blues-rock band Canned Heat. One of my favourite scenes from the Woodstock Diaries documentary film was when a fan climbed on stage during a Canned Heat performance, not to mob the band, but to ask Bob Hite for a cigarette. Bob, a gentleman, duly obliged. The fan even had to ask for a light for the said fag, which the great man managed to provide whilst continuing to sing the blues with total gusto. The world, sadly, seems to to have lost some of this casual spontaneity.
