At the end of a promontory along the coastal cliffs above Ravello, lies Villa Cimbrone, a grand villa frequented by cognoscenti, film stars, the great, the good, and the others. For me, the romanticism was somehow enhanced by the knowledge that the enigmatic film star Greta Garbo had stayed there in 1938 with Leopold Stokowsky. I don't know what the plaque actually says, but the website says this was the place where she'd fallen in love. I did wonder how this was known, but perhaps in the visitor's book she put: "Very nice food and room and also, I can report that this is an excellent place to fall in love, something I have just done".
