I wonder what the ancient Britons of 79AD were doing as the citizens of Pompeii dined out on fine wines and pizzas (or some equivalent), before attending some classic play at the theatre? Then again, a little bit later, those Brits (if you can believe Monty Python) were all carping on with their "What have the Romans ever done for us?" routine. Apart from inventing civilisation (with a bit of Greek help), it seems they've done quite a lot. Mind you, in the Greek's case, one might enquire where it all went wrong.
