June 13 2015 - Hyena Cloud
The Common Hyena cloud (Latin: Nubius Hyanatis Vulgaris), is usually seen near power stations or water cooling towers. Indeed, they are caused by chimneys spewing out their smoke or steam, which is then reconfigured into the characteristic and horrible Hyena shape by a light wind. Some liken it to the pedigree dog known as the "Emperor Poodle". They are invariably better photographed from the air. This one was in Southern France. They were first described by the naturalists and film makers, Armand & Michaela Denis.
