As the "Cap Finisterre" left the harbour and entered the Solent, we passed Spitbank Fort, where we'd recently spent the night. The fort was built in the 1860's to repel an invasion by the French. The invasion never happened and so the fort never saw any action. Its now a luxury hotel.
