Tonight, we played Uruguay. The barman at the Hotel had kindly set our dinner table up in front of the big screen. The miseries of what amounts to nearly 40 years of complete disappointment continued. Perhaps it was ironic that at the exact moment Uruguay scored their winning goal the screen went blank and we missed it. Having said that, the English football pundits really take the biscuit for their banal commentaries, especially Gary Linneker and Alan Hanson. To be honest, any attempt to say anything about England, including the whys wherefores of our exit, is a futile as futile can be; as Ludwig Wittgenstein said "A nothing will serve as well as a something about which nothing can be said". Hmm.
