All over the hotel and the town, there are numerous religious figurines, statuettes, icons etc etc. Here's one of many figures which adorn the hotel lounge. Recognising my inability to understand religion, this rather nice statuette of a bishop or archbishop, which is about 15" tall, got me thinking, so I googled images for "religious hats". As you might expect, there's an awful lot of religious headgear to be seen. I think I understand how covering one's head as a sign of respect can have come about, but the evolution of these things, I would suggest (and with some irony), has distinct parallels with the evolution of of the peacock's tail.
