That's my own title, but this machine was used to type out certain orders (including, presumably, death proclamations, some of which were made). As it happens, the Germans did not treat the Jersey population too badly, as long as they toed the line. It has often struck me how German "honour" in the war sometimes meant treating different people entirely differently depending on where they ranked in the German psyche. So, although the Jersey people were generally treated well, others in occupied Jersey, such as Russian labourers were literally worked to death. Interestingly, one Jersey girl was sent to a concentration camp after she disrespectfully through cow dung at a German Officer, ruining his uniform - she was never seen again. Many questions were posed at this exhibition, like how would YOU behave if your town was occupied...?
