Big screen in a pub in St Helier. A friend (albeit foreign) said he felt the Thames flotilla was a "dreary" event. True, the weather WAS dreary (see big rain drop on camera lens) and true, the BBC commentary was a bit too banal (not really commenting on such significant participating crafts, such as the Dunkirk survivors etc) but the symbolic "togetherness" of the event, including the crowd, as well as those directly involved, was truly amazing and anything but dreary. It really is great the way we have the institution of the monarchy, which despite being instinctively a wrong thing, is, in fact, a remarkably successfully wrong thing which clearly has the overwhelming support of the nation.
