Interestingly, the dogs do not pause when they need to take a dump. The turds just roll out onto the trail as they canter on, uninterrupted. The stench inevitably wafts back to the sled passengers, where, for a brief moment it is overwhelming in its toxic pungency. That odor, which I shall never forget, is deep, rich and meaty with a hint of something utterly rotten at its core.
