The French (or Belgian, whatever) country side offers a cruising experience (especially in an open-topped Jag) second to none. There is a certain atmosphere created by these long straight roads, with the occasional avenue of trees, which is palpable and a joy to behold. It may sound odd, but I experienced that feeling when I listened for the first time to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here) whilst simultaneously staring at the picture supplied with the album, which was of an avenue of trees in the French countryside, with a red chiffon scarf in the foreground, drifting to the earth.
