If there is a theme this month, perhaps it can be the forthcoming election, or maybe the whole concept of politics. Magnolia trees, or more specifically their spring flowers are seen by many as magnificent and there is a link to politics which I will explain below. This variety is the "Black Tulip" but it is so called not due it being of the tulip genus, but purely down to its tulip like flowers, so looks can be deceptive. Also, the magnolia tree's flower display maybe magnificent, but it is also fleeting; dare I say, very like politics and political careers - here today, gone tomorrow. After its gone, its difficult to imagine how it once was, or why we gave a toss in the first place (politicians, flowers, whatever...).
