We enquired about the merits of various beers and one way or another we ended up with "Flensburg" lagers, made, apparently in the town of the same name a short way north of Hamburg. In fact, the next day we ended up visiting Flensburg itself, which, Tim noted, had been the last bastion, literally, of the Third Reich and the place where Admiral Karl Doenitz had formally signed the surrender papers, ending Germany's paricipation in the war.
