09 April 2012 - Murder In The Cathedral
Below this sculpture is the very spot in Canterbury Cathedral where Thomas à Becket was murdered in 1170. Apparently four assassins had travelled to the Cathedral on 29 December of that year to murder Becket on the instructions of Henry II, who is quoted as saying "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?". The eminent historian, Simon Scharma reckons the whole thing was a cock-up, and that Henry actually said "Will someone get the lid off this tin of turbot paste?!". As they say, there's many a slip, twixt cup and lip.
