It was 1979. My cousin Val, her husband and two kids were standing outside our house on Willow Road. I was using an old Practika LTL, made in East Germany. I had stuck on a 300mm lens and a two times converter and I was about 200 yards away. Being a fair way away, I shouted instructions for posing, but as I did so, our Italian neighbour, Marcella walked through the middle of the quartet, braking up the pose. It caused them all to smile, creating a better shot, so I seized my opportunity.
