I would like to start this entry with a huge thank you to the Salton family, they treated us like royalty and we all had an amazing time, it was just like being at home, thank you very much!
We arrived at Rays house in the evening, (luckily around dinner time!) and instantly we felt at home, they live in a secluded area of land that used to be an old farm. There are about 8 houses close to each other in its own little estate, each house being owned by a different member of the family. Uncles, Aunties, Grandmas, Grandads and Cousins were all next-door neighbours. Ray´s home reminded me a lot of my own and so did his family, it was pretty cool that even though we live on the other side of the world the way we did things was exactly the same! That evening Ray´s mum cooked us a lovely dinner which we all enjoyed before heading out to a bar in town with some of Ray´s friends and his brother. We then headed to a cool little club that had a live band and played English music, they even played The Kings Of Leon for Leeroy, he got a little excited!
The following day we were playing football with some crazy Brazilians, we had some lunch and headed off to play, Ray had a football team in a seven-a-side league so he played with them while us lot and his brother played on a seperate pitch with some randoms! It was a seven a side game and you could so tell the difference in the style of play, whereas us Brits like to challenge hard and often cross the ball and play long balls, the Brazilians like to play along the ground and dribble, also we couldn´t understand a word which was interesting. We played for about an hour and had a great time then headed back to the house. When I got back Ray and his mum tought us how to make ´mate´ or in Portugese ´shimahow´ (spelt phonetically!), in South America everyone drinks this stuff so we thought it was necessary to learn how, even Che Guevera loves it! After getting cleaned up we had another delicious meal of steaks and pesto pasta, with beer in! Well nice! Then it was time to head out again!
We had tickets for a local nightclub called ´The Mill´, it was a pretty cool place with two rooms, one with a live band and one playing dance music, there was a big crowd of us too so we had an awesome night. At about seven in the morning after being at the club everyone met at ´Boka´, the local cafe, and had some soup. What a way to end the evening, sweet as! We got back as the sun was coming up, depressing, and had a couple of hours kip.
That afternoon the Salton´s had organised a big traditional family BBQ to be held at their house, so everyone from the houses came over and socialised. I´ve never seen so much meat and it was probably the best hangover cure ever! As in old Willetts tradition the older brother was in charge of the BBQ! Seriously its weird how socially everything was so similar, even the routine that Ray and mates had was the same; play football on saturday go out for beers, identical to back home, the only difference is that they stay out till seven in the morning whereas as we only manage till about 3ish, lame!
After the BBQ we were all suitably stuffed and had a big bus journey ahead to Foz de Iguassu, so we had some kip. When we awoke it was nearly time to leave so we said our goodbyes and Ray took us to the bus station. Another huge thank you to the Salton´s for all your help with our travels and for accommodating us so well, you´re welcome in England any time you like!
