Storm warnings and it seems the locals think there is a disaster! Run for the hills! Tuscan Hills! It's fresh and fabulous! I'm loving the Summer Rain: it's amazing dripping on the lightly mossed terracotta tiles and ancient walls! Lucca is surrounded by a full, unbroken wall! It is entwined with alleys, paths and laneways, like a scene from Beauty and the Beast or sleeping beauty: towers all around. To be climbed tomorrow!
So, we decided to hire a 4 seater bike to seek out Robyn's must have donuts in the Square somewhere in the lower part of town! After jiggling and bumping along roads and alleyways, getting lost and heading the wrong way down one way streets we finally found the donut stand. Robyn bought 6. I did eat two but Robyn was so shook up she felt sick and could only manage one! Too funny! After waiting 2 years, and seeking the little stand out in a beautiful Piazza! Robyn decided to walk back while Mike and I scared animals and small children on our way to return the contraption we all later agreed, over caffeine, Aperol Spritz and Buffalo Mozzarella Salad (yummy) was a very, very bad idea! First n last time! Ha!
Lucca is home to Puccini. There's an Opera recital to him every night in the cathedral. More on that tomorrow.
Just had a dinner at La Grotto around the corner: amazing fresh home made pasta! Fresh bread and truffles so delicious you could melt!
Really tired, so early night!
One week left...looking forward to every moment!
