Don't pay the Ferryman!
Don't even fix a price!
Pays to read up or do a bit of research before heading off!
On my arrival to Santorini I made the mistake of including the €25 fare for transfer to hotel. On investigation I discovered that the big luxury local bus complete with air conditioning does it for €2.30 and anywhere else on the Island fit under €2 (taxi drivers charge upwards of €35!). Just a saving tip. To be honest I'm not fussed as on arrival I was tired and was happy to get to beautiful Sofia. But this might help a few of you!
Hey! You'll never believe: an arrogant Frenchmen just started completely ranting to the bus driver about being overcharged (he questioned the €2.50 charge and wanted his .20 back! WTF!?
Personally, I gave him €3 (and even then felt like a heel!). These guys seem to work under pretty s***ty conditions. Some people are simply over-entitled!
Well, I bid adieu to the amazingly beautiful Santorini. I would have loved to watch Mamma Mia in the open air cinema but maybe they will do it in Mykonos. I'm back there now for a week of complete rest and relaxation.
It's 26 degees, light sea breeze and hopefully the ferry is on time today and will get me to Mykonos via Ios, Naxos and Paros in under 3 hours! The fast ferries are actually really comfortable. 3 classes: but the basic pax class is as good as any. There's food, drinks, including alcohol and they are well conditioned. You store your bags under n off u go! Wander where you like (much like Spirit of Tasmania).
The bus ride down to Port is pretty spectacular in itself. Winds its way down the cliff! Within millimetres of other buses coming the opposite way on cliffs edge! Very Lucille Ball/Desi Arnez: Very Lon Trailer-esque! No donkey ride (Cindy Brady style) for me though David! LOL
Entertaining Greek tunes all the way down as well!
Opa!
