The kids are excited, we are taking them OS, to Bali Indonesia. The downside is they have to raise their own spending money by saving Xmas and birthday money and what they can from pocket money and jobs. A years lead in time was given and charts drawn up and progress charted to keep them enthused. Originally all five were to come but unfortunately Tim started work and had to miss out. So it was Dustyn, Daniel, Ebony and Shashana.
Finally the time arrives and the kids have done a marvellous job of saving up. The boys have had their Hepatitis shots so that they can surf, so its onto the Sempati Air Flight SG 95 to Dempasar the capital. We were booked into the Garden View Cottages in Legian, Kuta. The Garden View proved to be quite suitable with a comfortable 2 story bungalow for us and the girls and an adjacent room for the boys. The place was clean, friendly and cheap with a slogan 'REMEMBER, there's always something new at the garden view' and this was true unless you stayed more than a week, then the menu and entertainment repeated. But what the hell, it was fun.
We started the holiday in a relaxing manner with a trip to waterbomb park which simply consists of various water slides and pools. We as parents hoped this pace, with a few massages thrown in, would make for a nice holiday, but of course the kids had other ideas.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Gianjar Waterfall Bungee Jump. To get there was a 45 minute drive via the villages of Celuk and Sukawati. The tower is 50 metre's high and is backdroped by Tenneungan waterfall. After the jump you are left dangling above the river and are then collected by a boat. The location is serene tropical surrounds, and makes a nice outing for all. Dustyn, Daniel and Ebony all jumped but much to Shashana's chagrin she was too young to jump.
While from the kids prospective we are the strictest parents on earth, we did relax a little and turned a blind eye to the older two enjoying a bit of night club activity. This produced some very funny moments when early one morning, after their first night club experience, we took in some traditional Bali dancing with its monotonous drumming, the boys looked very pained trying to block their ears.
The kids also took part in activities closer to home with more bungee jumping, and Ebony and her holiday friend Charlotte had a terrifying ride on the sling shot.
Before it was time to come home we had also been on day trips to Kintamani the highest point on the island, a full day trip to Singaraja on the other side of the island including the hot springs and gitgit waterfall, separate trips to Uluwatu and Greenballs so the boys could surf, Nusa Dua for jet ski's and kite flying, then into the mountains for white water rafting. Somewhere among all this Heather contracted Bali belly and was quite ill, but was a very brave soldier and still took part, particularly with the white water rafting.
