We took an overnight train with hard seats (not sleeper!) from Krakow in Poland to Praque in the Czech Republic. What an uncomfortable and unforgettable night! We didn't get any sleep at all with many officials boarding and checking tickets and passports, combined with very cramped conditions.
We arrived in the morning to a magic, beautiful and mystical city. Our accommodation was well out of the city requiring a tube ride and we were so glad to arrive after our sleepless night but alas as is the way we couldn't access our room yet. We did sneak into breakfast though and nobody noticed we shouldn't have been there yet.
The citycentre is a smorgasbord of stunning architecture of all different types. We had a glorious full day exploring on our own before meeting up again with Busabout people to continue our journey into the Czech countryside.
The patron saint of Czech Republic is Good King Wenceslas of the Christmas carol fame. Czech Republic has just joined the EU and the dark times of the Iron Curtain are behind them. However it is still cheap for travellers to live.
Footnote: The Historic Centre of Prague is UNESCO World Heritage listed.
