New Lanark.
Founded in 1785 to utilise the Falls of Clyde water power to operate a cotton spinning mill and ceased in 1968. The mill is best known for its manager from 1800 to 1825 Robert Owen for abolishing child labour and corporal punishment creating a new model for industry which was to spread across the world. New Lanark is UNESCO World Heritage listed.
