These were the guns hidden away that pounded the Allied (mostly US) forces for three days before eventually falling to two US Rangers, supported by the 2nd and 5th Battalions, in a five hour assault. In a recent cleaning out of the trenches, the body of a German soldier in full WW2 kit (missing a foot) was discovered.
