December 14th
Off to Kuala Lumpur today. We were on the bus for 10am and then it took us about 3 hours to get there - was a bit of a plush journey too as we had booked onto a VIP coach. Luckily the bus dropped off in China Town and we managed to find our hostel within minutes. This time we'd got it right on the hostel front and this one had a lovely communal kitchen and living area which was just as well as it started lashing it down within minutes of our arrival. Not only that but a storm started and we heard some of the loudest cracks of lightningthunder I have ever heard - I swear, it was like a bomb going off nearby.
So we ended up watching a DVD with some others in the hostel before heading late evening out to explore China Town and the surrounding markets.

So we had a day to explore Kuala Lumpur…..first stop was Merdeka Square, which was originally a cricket ground built during British Rule and is where Malaysia finally declared independence by raising the Malay flay in 1957.
Next stop was the History Museum where we had a free tour of the place, very nice museum - we looked like proper culture vultures. We spent a good few hours there before heading off to a place called Times Square for some lunch and a look around the shops. I managed to refrain for buying anything I clearly didn't need and so instead we went and checked out the indoor theme park 'Cosmo's World' - http://www.timessquarekl.com/themepark.html. We thought the rides would be pretty tame but they had quite a few upside down rides, an impressive roller coaster and bumper cars. It occupied us for a good three hours so worth the money!
Final stop of the day was the KL centre, which was the mall under the PETRONAS 'Twin Towers'. We grabbed food and went wandering round the shops (spotted a TopShop early doors) and admiring all the fancy Christmas decorations - FINALLY there was some Christmas spirit. We'd made sure that we were there to see the twin towers all lit up at night and they were pretty dam impressive I have to say. It's not a massive building in comparison to some we have seen but it is one of the most beautiful. Pictures will show all!
