The tarmac ends at Dawson City, but there is a route beyond. It starts with a free ferry across the Yukon then a dirt road - 'the Top of the World highway'. It had rained heavy in the night and the road was awful. Every climb Tilly's wheels were losing some traction and the back of the truck and camper were getting sprayed with mud. The Klondike was reputedly the last 'Great gold rush', it was not far from Dawson city that the first Nuggets were discovered in 1896. Within 2 years tens of thousands of prospectors arrived to claim stakes in Dawson area. We arrived just looking for an RV park! Dawson City was not what we expected - in a good way. We left Nugget City RV park at 7.30am, it was Saturday and the RV repair shops at Whitehorse wouldn't be open all day and who knows how busy they would be!
