22nd - 24th Feb.
After collecting our car/home for this stage of the adventure (a bright green people carrier with a bed in it called brucey!) we dived into our new favourite supermarket (pak'n'save) for supplies. With no map, finding our campsite was a little tricky but after driving for a little while we found somewhere and pulled up!
Dinner (cooked on a gas stove in the boot no less) was beef and spinach ravioli with a tomato and mushroom sauce, bellisimo! Once the bed was built we settled down for our first night in the car and soon realised the bed was actually bigger than what we had in the camper!
The next day we paid and left, our destination Queenstown, 7ish hours south. The drive was truely beautiful, the scenary really is as stunning as everyone makes out...maybe even moreso! We drove past quite a few lakes and every one had amazingly bright blue water, sooo inviting! We made a short stop in a picnic area to cook a BLT sarnie, and also pulled over for a mahussive coffee as we found a buy one get one free voucher in a leaflet we picked up!
On arrival in Queenstown we stopped to admire the spectacular views as the sun was setting by now, then we set off for a cheap campsite we read about by a lake nearby. The drive was a lil bumpy..4km gravel track the main reason. After a lil while of bouncing about we saw some water and pulled up, didnt quite look like the lake in the picture but would do for the night!
THEN IT HAPPENED! We opened the boot ready to cook dinner and made the mistake of leaving the lights on while i setup the mossie net...within seconds we were invaded by 100's, no THOUSANDS of little flying beasts! Neadless to say, Sam freaked out and faster than a speeding bullet managed to take cover under a towell! Chicken and rice soon became chicken and bread to allow us to get the door shut ASAP and then the mass beasty genocide could really get going! Dinner was lovely, if you dont mind picking tiny animals out of your food, and then straight to bed without even opening another door!
The view when we woke was awesome and we decided to follow the road a little further to see just what was round the corner, the answer was the campsite we had been looking for! Lots of campers and even a toilet (well kind of). Never mind, ours was free! We took advantage of the views and made a cuppa before heading back to town to find a campsite with a shower for the night.
After checking in, and cleaning our selves up (mozzie killing is sweaty work!) we went in search of info for activities to keep us busy for the next few days!
