Tom's Global Adventure
Hey Everyone, sorry I haven't written in a while, haven't really had the opportunity to go on the internet as I've been so busy working.
After leaving Sao Paulo on the 16/6 I flew up to Miami and stayed there for two nights. It was so hot and humid when I got off the plane it just reminded me of being back in Cairns in Australia! I stayed at a small hostel and in the evening I met up with 3 of the volunteers that were working in Florianopilis and it was really good to see how each of us got on. We bothhad very different experiences and the projects were completely different which was interesting.
Went to the beach the next day, and then bought loads of new clothes because it's so cheap out here, especially for trainers!!
On the 18th I arrived in NY and was then picked up a taken to the camp america hotel where I met some really cool lads but unfortunatly they were going to another camp but we said we'd travel for a bit afterwards which should be cool.
The camp I'm staying at was about a 3-4 hour train and bus Journey but there were a group of us that all went from the hotel together so we helped each other find the way. It was really weird though being in a big group of English people again and it took me a while to get used to it, especially when some off them thought I was Australian!!
The first week at camp we all got trained on how to look after, interact and teach the kids which was really helpful as I didn't know what to expect really. Once they arrived it was really fun and I had to go with another guy and oick 10 of them up from Boston, which was a good road trip.
At the moment I'm teaching Tennis and Rugby which I asked for and its been goog so far. We also fill in for other sports when people are off so there is a lot of variety in the work which keeps it interesting.
Except for 2 beers in Miami that I managed to buy I haven't had a single drink here which I think has been the biggest shock!! After l=backpacking around and going to all the festas in Brazil it feels like I'm 17 again here which is rewally anoying especially when I want to buy a pint with my lunch or in the evening if we have the night off. I've been doing loads of exercise again though and getting more healthy as I realised how unfit I had become when I arrived here.
I couldn't run for over about 100 meters without being really out of breath which was terrible!!
I have to go and take my tennis class now but I hope you are all well and enjoyed looking at all the photo's (if you've finishes looking through them that is!)
Take care and speak to you soon
Tom
