ok, let me tell you a little story of hindu art expressed on this pediment: a giant hateful serpent haunts the lands down below. a god sees this and decides to help and sets the forest on fire to kill the snake. however the god up in the sky hears the snake's pleas and sends rain down from above to extinguish the fire. yet another god though does want to kill the snake and shoots such a dense mass of arrows into the oncoming rain that the waterdrops cannot go through and the snake dies in the engulfing flames. or something... they must've been using some weird drugs in the old days to come up with something ilke this
