3000km through the middle of knowhere - this whole adventure was a great experience. we flew into alice springs from cairns and spent only one night before we set off on our trek. really not too much to say about alice springs itself, a very quiet town with wierd aboriginals hovering around!
we were part of a group of 16 and had a great tour guide who coordinated everybody to help chip in with food, setting up camp and getting the nightly fire going. our accomodation comprised of a 'swag' and the hard outback floor every night, that was all but the first night after we had drove into a desert storm and had to use the tents - note much to hayleys relief!! the storm was pretty cool and supposedly the first the ranger had seen, check out the pics - it turned into a big red dust cloud.
over the 6 days the trek took us around kings canyon, where we endured an 8km walk in 38 degree heat around the rugged hills - but all worth it tho for the spectacular views across both the canyons and lifeless outback. there was some relief as we got to take a dip in a swimming hole nestled within a canyon. we then travelled onto uluru (ayers rock) for yet another trek around the base of the rock - note another 10km! we also checked out the aboriginal cultural centre here which was pretty cool, had chance to learn about there beliefs and understand there work. and finally to finish us off we followed a 6km walk across the olgas (another amazing rock formation).
each day of the trip was different and we had a real good laugh, check out the day we painted our bodies and decorated the van with paint.
uluru being the focus of our trip did not let us down as we had chance to watch it change colour through sunrise and sunset.
our drive then took us out of the red centre south towards adelaide, sleeping uderground at coober pedy - some weired underground opal mining town. the last leg taking us 11hours with a brief stop in port augusta for a short swim in the salt lakes.
arrived in adelaide with a great group of people and had a good night out.
we begin the last leg of our australia trip tomorrow as we head towards melbourne down the great ocean road. we've booked up a motorhome so this should be pretty cool. will update as soon as we can.
missing you all more and more xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
