It's sometimes sad how fast time flies.. I'm writing this while sipping from my coffee at the Starbucks Airport. It's time to go home..
Wednesday morning we left Whistler at 06:15 in the morning for a 3,5hrs drive to Chilliwack where an exciting white water rafting trip was awaiting Philipp and myself. We were the first ones to arrive at Hyak, the provider where we had booked this trip. Our guide, Joe, explained what we could expect and what to bring. We had to wear our bathing attire underneath the wetsuits that we would receive from them, as well as the fleece jackets that we brought ourselves. Why fleece, you wonder? The trip we were doing could only be booked during the month of May, because only then the water from the glaciers is high and fast enough for some good rafting. Melted ice is obviously cold. Very ,very cold!! Therefore fleece jackets, socks and shoes came in handy.
We were in total with 6 people in the boot, plus Joe. After a 20min drive up along the Chilliwack River, we arrived at the spot where we would start. After suiting up in life jackets and helmets we received the necessary safety instructions and hopped into the boot. The moment the first water soaked into my shoes, I felt a small "oh my god what have I gotten myself into"-feeling, which grew a little stronger after we paddled into our first rapid and got the first ice-water splash drenching us from head to toe, bút, I have to admit, it was an experience not to forget. I don't think I have ever had so much fun on the water! It was definitely worth the cold and frost-nipped toes afterwards.
We went back to the Marriott Airport hotel in the afternoon. After checking in Philipp returned the rental car and the rest of us freshened up a little to get ready for dinner. The remaining days we did some shopping at Robson Street in the city and took another stroll through Stanley Park.
We are now waiting at the airport and can board in about 15 min. It was a truly amazing holiday with many unforgettable moments! It gave us all a better impression of what the different cities have to offer and I'm happy that, to a certain extend, I got to share this with you all as well.
I hope you enjoyed reading the blogs as much as I did writing them and thank you all for the messages posted!
Love from Vancouver
