Hello guys.
We've had a good week in Malaysia. Our first stop was at Malaka. which was really nice. They had lots of old buildings and a really old dutch fort. It was really nice after the endless shopping centres of Singapore. Our hostel was nice. we had our own room with balcony (all for about 5 pounds!) and the owners were really friendly.
Kuala Lumpur wasn't quite as nice. Our hostel was a bit dirty, a rat was spotted in the kitchen. thankfully we ate out all the time. The town itself its chaotic, the roads are mad, buses everywhere and loads of little scooters that go the wrong way down the road and even go on the path sometimes. Seeing the Petronas towers was good but we were glad to move on to the Cameron Highlands...
We tried lots of the local food at a night market, such as fried noodles (mee goreng), cocunut with rice flour wrapped in a banana leaf, and a rather weird sickly pancake type thing with sweetcorn in it. We really like the Lychees and mangosteens. We also tried the smelly Durian fruit which tastes better than it smells. it smells so bad you can't take it on public transport! We had a day stuck inside because of the rain and it rained a lot! The next day was really good weather and we did a rewarding walk through the jungle to a good view up a hill. The track took us back through a traditional village, wooden huts. Everyone there was very happy to see us. We were walking with Dan who we met at our hostel. hes from England but has been travelling for 3 years! We had some yummy strawberrys at the strawberry farm and also visited a tea plantation (boh tea) which was very nice scenery. We even got a lift back up the road with some workers on the back of a tractor!
Today we got to Pilau Pinang, an island on the north west coast. Its close to mainland and actually has a bridge connected it, although we took the ferry. Its a world heritage listed town and has a few interesting old buildings to look around. We are both full up after a yummy curry from the little India area in town. We get the train to Thailand on Friday.
