Just back from 10 days in the paradise that is Hawaii.
It was a holiday of extremes really; we spent 3 days on the Big Island of Hawaii where it pretty much drizzled continuously. We went to the Hawaii Volcano National Park to explore the lava fields, see an active volcano puffing out smoke and glowing lava from a distance! Randomly, there happened to be a cultural event - so we checked out some hula dancing and learned how to make lei's. Unfortunately, the only way to actually see the lava up close and personal was on a 6 hour hike, and we were just not brave enough L
The following day we went on a coffee tasting tour through the Kona coffee plantations, taking in some guided tours and avoiding the temptation to spend $50 on a bag of 'exclusive' coffee. That evening, we drove up the worlds highest mountain, Mauna Kea (from its base under the sea) to watch the sun set and then look through some massive telescopes to check out the stars and Saturn, 'twas very cool indeed (in more ways than one, brrrrrrrr).
From there we went to Oahu, where the temperature didn't drop below 28. We met up with the wonderful Signorelli's to do some relaxing in Disney's fabulous Aulani resort. We basically spent the next 7 days lazing by the pool, floating in the lazy river, sipping cocktails and having a dip when it got too hot. Of course, we did check out some local landmarks such as Pearl Harbour, went for a swim under a waterfall and attended a Luau. We also did a spot of snorkelling, which compounded my dislike for sea water. We ate great food; including fulfilling Tim's holiday dream of sharing breakfast with Mickey, Minnie and Goofy!!
We were very sad to leave Hawaii and even more so to be out of Signorelli company. We had such a great holiday but the bank is glad to see us back.
Aloha & Mahalo!
