Back on the truck this morning - up bright and early to make the most of an en suite shower (3 of us had shared an 8 person dorm for the 3 nights in Swak) and a stroll to a local cafe for breakfast - thrilled with the choices available Vikki had a bacon & avocado Benedict whilst Tessa enjoyed a vegetarian breakfast burrito. Got back to the hostel within plenty of time for getting on the truck only to discover that Driver Dave had taken it away to fill it with diesel. We departed nearly 45 minutes after planned time. No more wagging of fingers at us for being 10 minutes late due to awaiting our lunch being prepared ... no no no ;-)
The morning landscape was primarily coast and then sand. We saw one hulk of the many that give the Skeleton Coast it's name and reputation. We stopped at the top of a hill for people to take photos of the interesting rock formations. And again at the Tropic of Capricorn - we spend the rest of our trip in the bottom quartile of latitudes. Landscape became hilly with golden grasses, the occasional Oryx or Ostrich running along.
Afternoon tea was at Moose Desert Bakery at a small settlement called Solitaire. Fantastic apple pie - freshly baked and served warm. Campsite is in an area of petrified sand dunes. Quality of facilities at campsites is improving as we venture further south as is the options for food. Quiet night doing photos on the truck as temperatures plummet.
