First blog entry. We are currently in Vientiane in Laos after flying in this morning from Bangkok. We tried to write an entry in Bangkok but we ran out of time and refused to pay more money. Its 6000Kip for an hour here which is about 30 p. The weather is amazing. Very hot and sweaty. But the beer is cooling us down.

Our first night in Bangkok started off by wandering aimlessly down the street trying to find beer. We found Guinness. Hooray although it was quite expensive. We went for a curry in a very up-market, swanky restaurant and found we were underdressed. Everyone was wearing a suit and tie. Jamie had just torn his jeans off to turn them into shorts and we all had sandals on. It was very nice though. We then found some other bars including a kiwi bar. We saw 2 elephants, but we couldn't take pictures because the men frowned at us. We have seen lots of Thai Brides and ladyboys. We went to an Arabic market. Jamie liked it, John wasn't so fussed. We got the skytrain back to the hostel and sat up on a beautiful roof terrace. John had a rocking chair which was amazing. We found a whisky/rum which had no English writing on it, so it had to be bought. The night got a bit messy, some Americans and a Dutch turned up and we had some banter and some laughs. After getting back to the room at 5am we got up a bit late the next day...3pm.

After getting up late we decided we would go to the Khao San road which is apparently backpackers paradise. A long cab journey took us there and we had to find somewhere to eat immediately. Breakfast and beer at 5pm mmm. Khao San road is very bustling and people like to hustle you especially kids. Darius started having a thumb war with one and the kid said "If i win you give me 100 Baht" so darius shooed her away. At this point we were having buckets. Which is a sandcastle bucket filled with redbull, vodka and something else from a medicine bottle. It was deelish. We went to a roof bar and there was a guy with a guitar playing Angels by R. Williams. The end of the night was spent on the roof terrace with another bottle of rum. Jamie and Darius have been bitten a lot. John hasn't.

Today we flew to Vientiane in Laos, quite worse for wear. We got a Burger King at the airport. Hooray. Laos is very different to Bangkok, everyone is chilled out and relaxed. We walked around the town a bit but the heat and the hangover were taking their toll. Tonight we plan to get a meal and then some beers. Tomorrow we will do touristy things, like look at fountains, and in a few days we will get a bus up to Louang prabang.
