Well I have now officially started my first tour of Carins to Sydney. I am on a really lovely tour group, there are 14 girls and 1 boy (poor thing, he barely says a word!). Most of us are from England, but there is one Candian, two German, two Norwegian and one Irish girl! Our tour guides are amazing, Rusty and Katie, they are just brilliant!
This world is so very tiny....while chatting to a few girls one of them is a police constable....sat her promotional exams in Bramshill in November....the week I was there.....but luckily she passed - pheow, that could have been awkward!! It was strange while having a chat, I presumed that everyone would be just out of uni on a gap year but I would say that I would be aged around the middle of the group and there is a good mix, in my room there is an HR officer, solicitor, nanny and me! I have never been so pleased to see some free shampoo and a clean towel though! We moved into another place - what I thought was a hostel but its not it is a hotel and we all have nice beds and fresh towels, it is lovely. And not having to worry too much about who is coming into the room when is always nice.
We first all went on the bus (called Heidi) to Kuranda, you may remember from a previous blog thats where I found myself slightly emotional! and then we did the sky rail - I wasnt looking forward to it but I ended up having a blast! Plus a small miracle has occured......I found a honey shop. Ok not sounding too much like anything special but I was talking to the woman and was saying that I am struggling with my excema because of the humidity here and so she gave me this honey product thats like little drops. She put some on my skin, said I could also drink it and told me to go for a walk and if it works come back in 5 mins. So I did and oh my word, its absolutly amazing - my excema has completely cleared up! Wohoo! I will keep you updated on whether it is still working later on this week.
So back to the tour, we are getting commentery from our lovely guide (called Katie) and she seems to know everything about everything and she tells us the interesting bits, not the boring ones! I do have lots of pictures of trees and I can tell when I get home I will forget why I have them, but I will remember there was a story!
So, after the sky rail we went to an evening with the Turjaki people who are the aboriginal people in Cairns and it started off well. We got taken into a little room and got taught how to play a didgeridoo and then he played this film of the rainforest and played it for us and it was good. Then we joined the rest of the people who came to the evening and they started the 'show' we got our faces striped with paint which was quite amusing and they did this little dance thing. Then it was dinner - a buffet which was good and then the last bit of the show. Now unfortunately I got the giggles in the second half and so did quite a few of the tour group as it started to become like a school play. 6 men hopping around on a stage with a lot of fat wobbling around which didnt really seem to be co-ordinated. It was really hillarious!! Plus there was an American tour in there of the SAGA generation and a couple had really gastly his and hers outfits. She had on a dress and he had a shirt on which was all these bright colours and funny rainforest pattern. It was great!!
After this we got our photos taken with the 'tribe' who performed and it was back to Cairns for my first night out. We went to the Woolshed - which is like an English club that you can dance on tables. Hmmm, we are off there again tonight to see if with a little more alcohol we find it more amusing!
Today some of the group went to the Barrier Reef but me and one of the girls, Helena decided not to go (I want to go tomorrow on a rainforest tour which I havent done instead) so we have had a lovely chill out day in Cairns at the lagoon. Its been bliss!
Im off now for a shower now and get ready for tonights fun in the sun!!
