21/01/2005 : We arrived here in Oz yesterday at lunch. After spending ages getting through customs and getting sniffed by TWO dogs!!! we finally made it to our hostel in Northbridge. The staff are very friendly and helpful and gave us loads of information about the place. Although it is very basic, it is in a safe place and close to the centre. We got a map from the airport so we decided to do some exploring for the rest of our first day and found out where the bank, post office and pubs were!! We were still really tired from all of our travelling so we went to bed at about 8pm and didnt wake up til 2pm today!! We've collected our visa's so we can now get work, we've opened a bank account and stored our valuables in a safety deposit box!! All in all we've been very productive!! We are now off to get some tea/alcohol and boogy the night away! 24/01/2005 : We've finally managed to get an apartment. Its in an area of Perth called Burswood. We cant move in til the 31st though as someone else is in it til then. Its about 10mins from the city centre and is really clean, safe and overlooks the entire city! We even have our own pool!! Still trying to get jobs - we've found one at a deli in Burswood so hopefully that will work out. We'll keep you posted. Off to get some lunch now!! 26/01/2005 : Its Australia Day today so we are off to Kings Park to watch a huge fireworks display and have a picnic for our tea. The weather is still really hot but we are slapping on the sun cream so hopefully we wont burn too much!We didnt have much luck with the deli job as they wanted staff who could work longer than the 3 months we are here but we've got an interview on Friday for a Marketing and PR job so fingers crossed that will work out!We've also managed to get an Australian mobile so if you want to txt or call us you can! Keep checking the site! K & M x x 31/01/2005 : We're moving into our apartment today and are very excited to actually be able to hang up our clothes! We got the jobs working for the marketing company and start tomorrow so at least we'll have a steady wage coming in so we can pay the bills! We went to Kings Park on Friday to catch some rays but ended up getting chased around by a very angry black swan. So embarassing but very funny! Spent most of yesterday at the beach but as Karen burnt on Friday she took an umbrella with her. After taking ages to set it up she finally settled down to sunbathe until she noticed that the umbrella was flying half way down the beach and had to chase it to get it back! Nothing much else has happened here. Its still boiling hot so we're going to take a dip in our new pool this afternoon! We hope everyone at home is well. Keep checking the site. Love K & M x x 13/02/2005 : Howdi everyone! Well we have been really busy for the past couple of weeks. We've settled into the apartment now and have been working for the marketing company for nearly 2 weeks. The people we are working with are really nice and we've already been out with them all twice. Last night we chanced our luck at the Burswood Casino but unfortunately we didnt win anything!! Karen walked out $65 down and Mon lost $20!! Not a good night for gambling but we had a really good time!!There is a big Aussie Rules footie match on next week so hopefully we are going to get tickets. Some of the people at work are die hard fans so they are going to get us all kitted up so we fit in!! Should be a lugh. Anyway, we are off to do the weekly food shop now at Woolworths! Take care, K & M x 06/03/2005: Hi everybody!! Sorry we havent updated recently but we've been amazingly busy! We had a night out in Freemantle last Saturday night which turned into a bit of a nightmare! We survived though and ended the weekend with a choicy bbq!! Our first in Oz! This week we have been pretty much just working. Karen had her hair done yesterday - she is blonder than Pammie Anderson now!! We are off to another bbq today and a bit of a movie fest at Kents which should be a laugh!! Its Labour day here tomorrow so everyone has the day off. It should give us a chance to catch some rays as we are both looking a bit pasty now!! We hope you are all doing good back in good old blighty! We will write again soon to let you know our latest news. Take care, K & M x 20/03/2005 : Hi everyone!! We are doing really well here in Oz! Despite it being winter now its really hot - about 35 degrees everyday! Karen has given up her job now as she can manage to get along here without having to work. Mon is still sticking with it for now though. Its the long easter weekend from the 25th so 4 days off!! We are thinking about maybe going down south to the wineries region so we can sample some of Perths best alcoholic beverages!! Nothing much else to report at the minute! We are still having loads of fun and had a really good St Pats day last week. We cant really remember much but it involved a lot of alcohol and dodgy music!! Its been quite a while since our last update so heres what we have been doing. Monica finally quit work last week, so we have been catching up on some desperately needed tanning time! Karen went to and 'Evermore' concert last Thursday with our American friend Melissa. It was great. There was a lot of alcohol involved and she woke up with autographs all down her arms the next morning! She even got to go to the supporting bands aftershow party!! Not that she remembers much about it though! Monica went to the Perth premiere of the film 'Sahara'! It was a radio competition prize and she got to drink loads of alcohol free of charge and watch the movie in the'gold seats'! Needless to say she was a bit worse for wear the next day! We have been organising things to do when Monica's boyfriend Brad and Karen's dad arrive next week. We cant believe we have been here for 3 months - the time has really flown! We have really enjoyed ourselves in Perth though and would definately recommend it! Anyway, keep an eye out for our next update and hopefully some more photos will be added really soon. Take care, K & M x x 06/05/2005 : Well we have finally come to the end of our stay in Perth. Karen had a great time with her dad and Brad left yesterday after having a fun filled 2 weeks here. We spent our last week doing loads of good stuff including swimming with dolphins and driving down to the Margaret River area where we visited some wineries, caves and a chocolate factory. We are sad to be leaving but we know the next 10 weeks are going to be really exciting. We are spending our last night having a few drinks with friends before going back to the apartment to have an early night as we have to be up first thing in the morning.
