Kia Ora!
From our last blog we have been to Wellington the Capital of NZ for two days. Went to the Te Papa Museum which had a lot of cool stuff in, giant squid and maori artifacts the highlights. Tasted some really good food at a tiny Malaysian cafe and had the most amazing pies at Trisha's Pies. Had a couple pf beers at Macs Brewery which was an old shipyard warehouse converted to a bar very cool, then went and watched Breaking Dawn, epic!
Caught the ferry from Wellington to Picton on the South Island and drove for a while and got our selves a camping hut in Motueka and holed up for the night.
The next day we reached Abel Tasman where we spent 2 days. It was absolutely amazing, unbelievably beautiful views, beaches, mountains, sea, waterfalls its got the lot. We trekked up to the headland which had a stunning view of the coast. Second we trekked to Wanaui Falls which again was beautiful, had to cross a pretty scary rope bridge to get there tho. We tracked down our first taste of white bait in Takaka, a white bait fritter sandwich, yum! Chilled out at the campsite our last night to get up early and head down the West coast.
Arrived today at Hokitika, a sleepy western style town. Driving down the west coast the views were of more rugged beaches and pounding waves. For lunch we had more white bait this time a white bait pizza follwed by local fudge, now of to have a few drinks at Stumpys bar.
Tommorrow we head further south to see the Franz Josef glacier and then on again to Milford Sound.
See you in Christchurch.
