The next night and day were to be spent in the town of Margaret River, we would have loved to have stayed longer however it is a very prosperous vineyard region and as such the hotels and motels were priced accordingly. The drive down to Margaret River was lovely as we passed field after field of grape vines and fruit trees dotted with the occasional beautiful vineyard temping you in with free tastings! We resisted temptation and continued on to Margaret River. We managed to find a lovely hostel just a short drive from the town centre so after sussing out where we were staying we parked the car up and had a wander around the town. Being a Sunday many of the shops were closed which was probably for the best as there were loads of lovely little shops that would have made me want to spend money. One shop that was most definitely open was the fudge factory!! We were able to watch them making fudge then sample some of the different flavours the most interesting of which being passion fruit flavored fudge (not good). We managed to contain ourselves and buy just one bag of delicious vanilla fudge before heading to the supermarket for dinner supplies.
The next morning we spent the morning at the bay beside our hostel and being tucked a bit out from the town the beach was almost completely deserted and absolutely gorgeous. For the first time in a long time the water was completely calm which was amazing for swimming and with crystal clear water it was absolutely perfect and definitely up there as one of my favourite beaches in Australia. We stayed at the beach longer than we intended as it was just too perfect and we were really wishing that we were staying here for longer. At about 1pm we managed to drag ourselves away as there was still so much to explore! Having done the whole vineyard and wine tasting thing a couple of times before we were happy to give it a miss this time and just take it all in from the road. Rather than leave the region without trying anything we opted for something a bit different with a brewery tasting at "The Bootleg Brewery". A tasting tray with 8 small glasses of various beers and an information sheet telling you a bit about what you were tasting. The whole experience was made better by the gorgeous setting outside under a giant sun umbrella in a huge beer garden on the bank of the Margaret River. We could easily have stayed there supping cold beer all day however with Michael as the designated driver one tray was enough. After the brewery we wanted to take in some other bays and townships that had been recommended on our travels. First stop was Bunker Bay and if we thought the last place was stunning this place was equally amazing with the whitest sand and the most beautiful turquoise blue water so tempting that Michael couldn't resist going in for a cool down! We had a walk along this beautiful beach marveling at all the wind surfers and kite surfers taking to the waves. After Bunker Bay it was on to the nearby town of Dunsborough for a quick look around and then we had time for one final stop at Meelup another beautiful beach unfortunately we were running out of time so it was a very brief look around here before it was time to make our way to our hotel in the town of Bunbury.
